Popular Food Recipes: Delicious Caribbean Preparations

Author: kevinnairvij
If you travel through the Caribbean you might likely get to experience some 'Soul food' recipes. Now let me open the secret behind the Caribbean soul foods. The three ancient tribes Taino, Carib along with Arawak that belongs to India, traveled the Caribbean and introduced the diet full of vegetables and fruits. These nutritional foodstuffs became the daily diet of Caribbean natives and they called them 'soul foods'. Delicacies made up of these vegetables and fruits give travelers a true essence of Caribbean recipes.

However, meat dishes and seafood dishes were also eaten by the Taino tribe in the meal containing soul foods. They use to cook meats in large vessels made up of clay. The blend of flavoring agents and herbs with the meats provide a divine dining experience. Jamaica, a distinguished Island of Caribbean, boasts of an exclusive range of Caribbean styles of cooking and ingredients.

Following Tainos, Arawaks was the tribe who largely influenced the Craibbean recipes with their methods of cooking. Their cooking tecniques comprises of low fire wood cooking. When meats were cooked directly on the wood, the murky flavor of the wood infused in the meat and makes the delectable dishes. The taste of that meat truly rules the senses of the diners. The flavor and aroma straightforwardly reaches to the soul. This process of cooking food on wood was called as 'barbacoa' and this is the term that gave birth to 'barbeque'.

One of the most entertaining and fascinating aspect of Caribbean recipes is the range of products and flavorings. Caribbean is a mixture of religions and different customs, hence all of them has their individual styles of cooking that can be adjusted according to individual taste. The most influencing tribe was the Carib who are attributed for introducing the flavoring agents and peppers to the Caribbean soil. The 'soul food' contributed by them is still representing the excellent Caribbean recipes. Soul recipes mainly contain Okra, yam, plantain, salted cod, banana, mangoes and sweet potato to name a few.

Most of the Caribbean soul food recipes are derived from Indian food culture, but Chinese and Spaniards are also credited for their contribution to the Caribbean recipes that still rules the Caribbean menu.

Why Prayer is Important

A word from me: ok I know this may seem like it has nothing to do with food, but it does. I'm not pushing religion on anyone, my belief is that no matter what religion you're in, you still have prayer to someone or thing. I just wanted to make it clear that I  wanted to share this article and a recommendation that is both prayer and food related at the end of this article. Thank you for reading and understanding.

Why Prayer is Important

Author: JohneyMaron

If you really think about it, prayer can seem a little odd. What do you do in prayer? You bow, or kneel, or raise your hands, or just sit there and talk, or even think - and you have the knowledge that God hears you and answers your prayer. Prayer is an amazing reality - a reality that can radically transform your life. Why is prayer so important?

Prayer is important because God invented it.
Prayer is not the random invention of a religious fanatic. It is not a fantasy, a crutch for the weak, or a pipe dream. Prayer is a rock-solid reality that God gave to us so we could talk to Him. Every book of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, records prayer. In an amazing act of grace, kindness, and love that God gave us this means for us to speak directly to Him. The fact that God invented prayer and asks us to pray is our confidence that prayer is important.

Prayer is important because the Bible commands it.
God's word is replete with commands to pray. Prayer forms a foundational element of the believer's life. Without prayer, the result will be confusion, anger, lack of peacefulness, and even sin. If anyone questions the importance of prayer, think about the importance that Jesus placed upon prayer. Repeatedly in the gospels, we read of Jesus going to a solitary place to pray, spending all night in prayer, and encouraging his disciples to pray. The final act that Jesus did before his trial and crucifixion was hold an all-night prayer vigil to His father. Jesus thought prayer was important, and the Bible is full of repeated commands for believers to pray, too (1 Corinthians 1:11; Ephesians 6:18; Philippians 4:6; Colossians 4:2).

Prayer is important because you need it.
Let's be honest, though. God doesn't need your prayers as much as you need to pray. Prayer has the power to change you, regardless of what you ask for. Prayer cultivates dependency upon God. When you pray, you are asking God for His help. That really takes the focus off yourself, and places it entirely upon God. Prayer gives us a means to worship God, praise God, and thank God. Beyond that, prayer is your only means of talking with God. We have the Bible, which is God's word to us. Mankind has prayer, which is our words to God. Beyond those reasons, think about one of the main purposes for prayer - asking God to meet our daily needs. Prayer is the believer's lifeline.

Prayer is important because humanity requires it.
Prayer is not just a give-me time. We must pray for others, too. How easy it is to let a casual "I'll be praying for you", turn into nothing more than a sanctified way of saying, "it's ok." Others need our prayers. The homeless need our prayers for shelter. The starving need our prayers for food. The sick need our prayers for healing. The struggling need our prayers for peacefulness. Prayer can change the world. That's pretty important.

Starting A Superfoods Diet

Starting A Superfoods Diet

Author: madesimple

Superfoods: Promote Good Health
Recent dietary research has uncovered a number of foods; nutrient-dense foods to be exact, that time and again promote good overall health. They are coined “superfoods" because they tend to have fewer calories, higher levels of vitamins and minerals, and many disease-fighting antioxidants. These superfoods can be easily implemented into your easy cooking recipes for healthy eating.

These superfoods will ensure healthy eating for a number of reasons as we will see below. But before we get into the details of why you should be using these superfoods, here is a list of what they are.

Superfoods: The List
Beans (legumes), berries (especially blueberries), broccoli, green tea, nuts ( here we are especially talking of walnuts), salmon. soy, spinach, tomatoes, turkey, oranges, pumpkin, whole grains, oats, and yogurt, are simple superfoods, that can all help stop and even reverse diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and some forms of cancer.

And even though the focal effect may be on a certain part of the body, these superfoods can also affect the health of other body functions. It’s a “help one body part help them all" type of deal. After all, the whole body is connected.  With these simple superfoods as the base of a balanced, solid diet, weight loss gimmicks and other quick programs can become a thing of the past in your life.

Superfoods: Effects of Unbalanced Diet
The ill-effects of an unbalanced diet on the other hand can be damaging. Low energy levels, mood swings, constant fatigue, weight change, are some of the signs that your diet is unbalanced.  An unbalanced diet can cause problems with maintenance of body tissues, growth and development, brain and nervous system function, as well as problems with bone and muscle systems.

Are you constantly battling with a lack of energy, irritability? You may be experiencing the ill effects of an unbalanced diet. It may be time to look into the superfoods and healthy eating options.  A weakened immune system leading to frequent colds or allergies, and mineral depletion that can trigger a variety of health concerns including anemia can also be a result of poor nutrition.

Superfoods: Improves Overall Quality of Life
And since the body is connected, realizing that an unhealthy body will result in an unhealthy overall life experience only makes sense.  When we nourish our body with these so called superfoods, and complement them with other nutrient-dense and healthy foods, our spirit will be vitalized and healthy. It is a direct and almost guaranteed result.

Many modern diets based on prepackaged convenience foods are sorely lacking in many vitamins and minerals, which can affect our mental capacities as well, and cause irritability, confusion, and the feeling of ‘being in a fog’ all the time. And of course no one wants to feel this way. We all want to be at our opitmal health, enjoying our life, our family and the surroundings we live in.

Superfoods can be the basis of a sound, healthy eating, nutritious solution to curing many of your ailments and helping you achieve your health goals! Imagine not having to deal with some of the health issues that you are dealing with right now!  If you don't have any serious health issues but you are dealing with fatigue or a lack of peace, look to this article as a way to be encouraged and to have your spirits lifted.

Starting something new is never an easy thing. But the first step is always the most difficult. Once you start, you will see yourself deepening yourself more and more into this lifestyle and never again looking back at what you had going on in your life before.

Spooky Cookies Muhahaha!

As you know halloween is right around the corner. So what a treat it would be to make, bake or buy halloween themed cookies! I'm going to share some of my favorite videos, recipes and recommendation for buying themed cookies for those of us that don't want to get down and dirty in the kitchen. So hold on to your chef hats cause we're off!

Halloween Cookie Decorations

Decorating cookies shaped like ghosts, jack-o'-lanterns, and black cats is a great way to prepare for Halloween and a wonderful children's project. Use smooth, glossy royal icing in holiday hues to dress up sugar, chocolate, or gingerbread cookies. Then, follow these instructions for flooding, piping, or sanding -- three easy cookie-decorating techniques that will give these confections a festive finishing touch.
RecipeRoyal IcingMakes 16 cookies
2 large eggs
4 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
Juice of 1 lemon
Glycerin (optional)
Food coloring
1. Beat egg whites until stiff, but not dry. Add confectioners' sugar and lemon juice. Beat for 1 minute or more. If icing is too thick, add more egg whites; if it is too thin, add more sugar.
2. For a glossy icing, mix in a few drops of glycerin. To tint icing, add food coloring sparingly, one drop at a time, using the end of a toothpick. Blend well.
Flooding, Piping and SandingFor Flooding
To ice the entire cookie, use a pastry bag with a #2 tip. A thinner icing consistency is preferable when flooding; just add a bit of water to thin out the icing. Fill the pastry bag, cuff the open end over one hand, and use a spatula to scrape in the icing. Twist the half-full bag closed, so the icing doesn't leak out at the top.
For Piping
Using a #3 tip, rest the tip on your index finger, pushing the icing out gently with your thumb.
For Sanding
Dust the cookie with sanding sugar to make it sparkle. Tap off the excess sugar when the cookie is dry.
